Wonders secure 2nd win

LANDIS - South Rowan couldn’t sustain its halftime momentum as A.L Brown continued its dominance over the Raiders with a 29-17 win Friday night.
Kannapolis (2-0) scored first on a 12-yard screen pass from senior quarterback Jonathan Efird to Artrelle Louis.
An interception by the Raiders put South Rowan in good field position, which led to a 51-yard field goal by Lucas Soares to make the score 6-3.
After Brown turned the ball over on downs, South Rowan drove the field and scored on an 11-yard run by Josh Wike. After the extra point, the Raiders went into halftime with a 10-6 lead.
Kannapolis turned the tide in the second half, blocking a Raider field goal attempt and then marching down the field, scoring on a 10-yard pass from Efird to Zach Massey to put the Wonders up 13-10.
After another South Rowan punt, Efird scampered for 47 yards on a quarterback keeper that led to a 2-yard touchdown run by Louis.
A botched snap led to a safety, then the Raiders caused a turnover and scored on a second-effort run by Donterio Glaspy with 3:41 left in the game.
On the next possession, Efird hit Terrance Johnson for a 44-yard touchdown pass with 2:11 to play to seal the win for the Wonders.
“We had some breakdowns, and we’ve got to get better,” said Wonders head coach Ron Massey. “We had another lineman go down tonight and it kind of threw our offensive line out-of-whack a little bit.
“We made a few adjustments in the second half. We made the plays when we had the opportunity to make them.
“We’ll get better, we’re just banged up. We’ve got to find some depth somewhere.”
