Statesville cross country brings back seasoned cast

By Brian Meadows

Senior Kayla Duncan and sophomore Sarah Ann Waugh highlight Statesville’s cast of top returning runners in girls cross country.

Waugh was named all-conference as a freshman.

On the boys side, all-conference runner Matt Smith is still mending from a stress fracture he suffered during the summer, according to coach Harry Efird.

Smith is at about 90 percent, Efird said.

Marcus Gillon is also one of the Greyhounds’ top returners. Statesville must replace consistently strong finisher Matthew Tomlin.
