GOP gubernatorial debate in Asheboro
I covered the latest GOP gubernatorial debate on Monday night in Asheboro. Four of the five candidates participated. Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory had a conflict with a city council meeting and could not attend to the dismay of opponent Bob Orr.
Three of the candidates - Fred Smith, Bob Orr and Bill Graham - had similar positions on many issues. Elbie Powers, who said the debate was on the second of 14 which he was invited, had a different take on several topics.
HDR editor Todd Callaway served on a media panel, along with two other editors from North Carolina newspapers. John Hood of the John Locke Foundation asked several questions.
We also have video of the event via the Winston-Salem Journal on our Web site’s main page.
