State House candidate pushes ‘common-sense’ agenda

TAYLORSVILLE — Former State Rep. Mark Hollo was a featured speaker at the Alexander County Republican Party Dinner recently.

The event was in a packed cafeteria at Alexander Central High School. Speakers touted the record of service to the nation by presidential candidate John McCain, the record of service to our state by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, and the need to change the leadership in Raleigh by electing Pat McCrory as governor.

Hollo, a candidate for the N.C. House, made the case for change in Raleigh which, this year, begins in Alexander County.

“We believe in America, we trust in God and we are committed to passing on the blessings of liberty to our children and grandchildren. These are lofty goals and, like Olympic athletes, we must rise to the challenge.  We must defeat those who would hand over our freedoms and liberties to the control of government.”

Hollo questioned why state taxes have been raised seven times in the last eight years, why government spending has soared more than 30 percent in just the last four years, why North Carolina is the only state in the Southeast refusing to constitutionally protect marriage, and why are so many Democratic officials in Raleigh being sent to prison for corruption?

Hollo then asked the gathering, “Do you want conservative, common sense, and honest government in Raleigh?  A government serving the needs of the people, and not trying, at every turn, to take more of your money, take more of your freedom, and change your values?

“If we want a common-sense conservative agenda in Raleigh, if we want to see our values reflected in the laws of this state, we have to take back this seat. That’s what’s at stake in this race for the state House (District 88).”

Hollo said “The Democrats in Raleigh are every bit as liberal as Barack Obama. The speaker of the North Carolina House, Joe Hackney, is just as liberal as Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi in Congress, and Ray Warren supports all of the above. Mr. Warren talks conservative here, but in Raleigh he tows the liberal line right where his Democrat bosses tell him to go.”

He reminded the crowd of his past service. “You know where I stand on lowering taxes and cutting government spending, you know where I stand on the Marriage Amendment, on the death penalty, on repealing the transfer tax, on protecting property rights, on illegal immigration and my firm opposition to teaching the gay rights agenda in our public schools.”

Hollo asked the audience for their prayers and support.

“Tell your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers; if they want their values represented in Raleigh the choice is clear.”
