Lance Sigmon comprised the one man candidate forum Tuesday night.
Republican congressional candidate Lance Sigmon participated in the planned event at Catawba Valley Community College, though his opponent, incumbent Patrick McHenry, couldn’t attend due to a scheduling conflict.
Sigmon touched on several issues and took questions from the roughly 50 people in attendance during the 90-minute session.
Sigmon was grateful for the opportunity to share his views.
“The audience got to hear my position on the issues,” he said. “That is what public debate is for.”
Sigmon spoke of his stance to secure the borders regarding immigration, his support of eliminating the federal inheritance tax, evaluating the fairness of free trade agreements and making President Bush’s tax cuts permanent.
The Catawba County Republican Party hosted the forum.
In other congressional campaign news, McHenry’s campaign consultant, Dee Stewart, released results of a January poll of 400 likely voters in the 10th District.
McHenry’s favorable job approval rate stood at 62 percent, while 19 percent held an unfavorable view.
McHenry also led a theoretical general election contest with Democrat Daniel Johnson. McHenry received 50 percent to Johnson’s 20 percent.
Tel Opinion Research performed the survey of 400 likely voters across the district.
The results differed significantly from a poll funded by the North Carolina Democratic Party in December.
McHenry’s approval rating stood at 43 percent and 45 percent of voters said they would re-elect the congressman in that poll, which was performed by the Raleigh-based Public Policy Polling.
