North Carolina Democratic Party filed FEC complaint against Dole

The complaint focuses on a Dole television ad that aired on or about June 9. Ms. Dole’s image at the beginning of her advertisement is not of sufficient size. The ad also lacks a written statement identifying Ms. Dole or stating she has approved the advertisement.

“Such actions violate the ‘stand by your ad’ requirements of federal election law,” said NCDP Chairman Jerry Meek. “Maybe Elizabeth Dole doesn’t stand by her ad because she knows that for the past six years she hasn’t been standing up for North Carolina’s families.”

Meek also called for an investigation into Dole’s campaign activities.

“The Commission should investigate immediately the violations presented herein, enjoin Elizabeth Dole and her campaign from further violations, and fine them the maximum amount permitted by law,” said Meek in the complaint.

This comes on the heels of an ethics complaint the North Carolina Democratic Party filed earlier this week against Dole for using her official photo as her campaign one, in an attempt to confuse voters.

Federal ethics law prohibits officials from using congressional resources, including web images, for campaign use.

“Ms. Dole and her campaign may dismiss these matters as small or irrelevant,” Meek said. “But they are an indication of how fast and loose Republicans are willing to play with the rules. North Carolinians are tired of Washington insiders who say one thing and do another, or in Dole’s case, do nothing.”
