Naval Hero and Former Prosecutor Daniel Johnson Files to Run for Congress
HICKORY, NC – Naval veteran and former prosecutor Daniel Johnson filed paper work today with the North Carolina Board of Elections to run for the United States House of Representatives from North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District.
“I’m running for Congress to continue my career of public service by serving the people of the 10th District,” said Johnson, a Hickory native. “Our region needs a leader who will do what’s best for their neighbors and what’s best for America. We need a leader who is part of the solution, not part of the problem.”
After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Daniel began his service as an officer in the United States Navy. While serving aboard the U.S.S. Blue Ridge near South Korea, Daniel risked his own life to save a fellow serviceman. Daniel and the sailor survived, but Daniel lost both of his legs below the knee. For his bravery, Daniel received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the highest peacetime medal for heroism.
After his recovery, Daniel worked for Sen. Max Cleland on Capitol Hill. He went on to law school at Chapel Hill, where he met his wife Creecy. For three years, Daniel worked as an assistant District Attorney, prosecuting DWI, drug trafficking and murder cases.
Daniel and Creecy are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, where his father has been the senior minister for eighteen years. Daniel and Creecy are expecting their first child, a little girl, in June.
“My campaign is about doing what’s best for the families of our district. In Congress I will work to cut spending, support and protect the American worker, improve our schools, and make healthcare more affordable,” said Johnson. “I want to be a leader who people can be proud of and who people can trust to do the right thing.”
