McHenry leads latest poll

HICKORY — The McHenry for Congress campaign today released the results of a survey of likely voters in 10th District. According to the survey, Congressman Patrick McHenry holds a large lead over his Democrat opponent, Daniel Johnson.

If the election for Congress were held today, would you be voting for: Republican Patrick McHenry or Democrat Daniel Johnson?

McHenry 51%
Johnson 31%
Undecided 18%

“The results clearly demonstrate that the people of Western North Carolina want Patrick McHenry to keep fighting for them in Washington,” said Dee Stewart, the McHenry campaign’s senior political adviser.

The poll of 400 likely general election voters in the 10th Congressional District was conducted from August 12-14, 2008 by Tel Opinion Research, an Alexandria, Virginia-based survey research firm. The survey’s margin of error was plus or minus 5 percent.

If you have ever been the “victim” of one of the push polls commissioned by the McHenry organization then you know how responders are pressured to give the answer sought by the peron(s) paying for the poll.  Even if the poll were correct (which I doubt) I find it interesting that a two term congressman with a huge campaign war chest financed by a myrid of special interest groups including the banking and real estate industries plus “big oil” finds himself no more than 20 points ahead of a political unknown with limited campaign funding!  Perhaps this is the real headline of this story! Daniel Johnson, decorated military veteran is gaining on McHenry each day.
