McHenry campaign releases first TV ad

HICKORY – The McHenry for Congress campaign today released its first television ad titled, ‘Keep Fighting for Us’.  The ad features local residents discussing some of U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry’s accomplishments on their behalf.

“Patrick McHenry’s reputation as a fighter for the people of Western North Carolina is well deserved.  In only four years in Congress, Patrick is getting results that make a difference in the lives of the people he is so honored to represent,” said Rebecca Yount, McHenry’s campaign manager.

The ad features a local veteran referring to Congressman McHenry’s work in bringing the new veterans’ health care clinic to Hickory.  The congressman built bipartisan support for a renewed look at the VA clinic, which had lingered in the federal bureaucracy since 1992.  Following a meeting between Congressman McHenry and then-secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson, the clinic was approved and later opened on June 4, 2008.  For his work, McHenry was honored by the North Carolina Chapters of the American Legion and Marine Corps League.

A local firefighter mentions Congressman McHenry’s help in bringing home over $9 million in grants that help local fire departments save lives.  The congressman hosts regular workshops to assist local fire departments with the writing of grant requests.  McHenry often sends letters of recommendation to the Department of Homeland Security on behalf of fire departments in the 10th District.

A local woman comments on Congressman McHenry’s plan to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.  With our country facing its worst energy crisis in history, he has put forth a bold and balanced plan to conserve energy, invest in alternative energy sources, and increase the supply of American energy resources.  Despite criticism from his opponent, McHenry continues to fight for overturning the bans on drilling for America’s abundant supply of oil and natural gas.

“These are just a few of the reasons why the people of Western North Carolina are saying, ‘Keep fighting for us, Patrick’,” Yount said.
