Local MoveOn members will rally for Obama economic plan

HICKORY

MoveOn.org members in Hickory will rally on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and deliver a petition to the Hickory office of U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, showing grassroots support for President-elect Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan.

The members applaud Obama’s emphasis on investments in green jobs, health care and clean energy and will urge McHenry to pass Obama’s plan quickly without weakening its policies, according to a press release from MoveOn.

This event is one of hundreds of rallies around the country on Wednesday. MoveOn members will hold events in scores of districts and states with emphasis on generating bipartisan support for Obama’s plan.

“After eight years of mismanagement of our economy, we need real solutions. President Obama’s first act will create 3 million new jobs and jumpstart investment in sectors that really benefit the American people,” said Linda Osbon, a MoveOn.org member from Hickory.

“We hope that Representative McHenry won’t let politics-as-usual stop this package from moving quickly through Congress so that ordinary Americans can get what they need to survive this crisis.”

MoveOn.org is a political action committee powered by 5 million progressive Americans. According to the organization, members believe in the power of small donors and grassroots action to elect progressive leaders to office and to advance a progressive agenda.
