Candidates to discuss issues with Hickory business owners

The National Federation of Independent Business and Catawba County Chamber of Commerce will present a nonpartisan candidates forum on Oct. 15 at the Hickory Metro Convention Center.

NFIB, North Carolina’s leading small business association, has invited the major candidates for the 10th District congressional seat, governor and lieutenant governor.

Confirmed speakers include congressional candidates Patrick McHenry and Daniel Johnson, gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory (Beverly Perdue was invited, but cannot attend) and lieutenant governor candidate Robert Pittenger (Walter Dalton was invited, but cannot attend).

“Small business is the cornerstone of North Carolina’s economy, and what happens in Raleigh and Washington, D.C., will affect our members’ ability to grow and create jobs,” said Gregg Thompson, state director of NFIB North Carolina. “This is a great opportunity for small business owners to hear directly from the candidates about the issues that matter to them.”

The forum is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost is $20, and advanced purchase is required.
