Candidate forum set for tonight

NEWTON
The primary election season’s first candidates’ forum is tonight.
The Catawba County Farm Bureau is sponsoring the event at 7 p.m. at the Newton-Conover Civic and Performance Place, 60 W Sixth Street. 
Nine candidates in three races are confirmed to attend. They are Democrats Daniel Johnson and Steve Ivester, and Republican Lance Sigmon for the 10th District Congressional race. N.C. Sen. Austin Allran and challenger Kitty Barnes; and Philip Parlier, Dan Hunsucker, Jack Beach and Barbara Beatty for Catawba County Commissioner. Hunsucker and Beatty are incumbents.The forum is expected to last two hours. The first hour will involve introductions from candidates and a question and answer session.
A reception with the candidates will follow for the second hour.
