Hagan in Hickory today
GREENSBORO, NC – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) will attend three events tomorrow, Saturday, June 14, in Reidsville, Salisbury and Hickory. Kay will begin the morning at the Rockingham County Democratic Breakfast and deliver the keynote address in Reidsville. Then she travels to Salisbury for a Juneteenth celebration honoring the historical June 19th emancipation of African-Americans in Texas, who did not hear President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation months earlier. She will then host her second Carolina Family Reunion in Hickory in order to introduce her immediate family to supporters – Kay’s extended North Carolinian family.

Tim Russert dies of heart attack
This may be the last media source to report that longtime NBC newsman Tim Russert died Friday of an apparent heart attack. The following is the Associated Press story.
WASHINGTON (AP)—Tim Russert, a political lifer who made a TV career of his passion with unrelenting questioning of the powerful and influential, died of a heart attack Friday in the midst of a presidential campaign he’d covered with trademark intensity. Praise poured in from the biggest names in politics, some recalling their own meltdown moments on his hot seat.

NC GOP defends McCain
The N.C. GOP released the following statement in response to Barack Obama’s speech Monday.
Barack Obama attacked John McCain for his tax policy in regard to ExxonMobil. However, it is Obama who has received $213,000 from people who work in the oil and gas industry or their spouses, including $30,850 from executives of ExxonMobil alone.
Obama takes money from oil company executives:
“But Obama’s campaign has accepted $213,000 in contributions from people who work in the oil and gas industry or their spouses, according to the Center For Responsive Politics. And according to FactCheck.org, Obama’s campaign has received money from executives of ExxonMobil ($30,850), Hess ($5,200), Shell ($9,900), ConocoPhillips ($4,300), Chevron ($9,500) and BP ($6,396.)”

North Carolina GOP elects new seats to national committee
RALEIGH—At this weekend’s NCGOP Convention, North Carolina Republicans elected new representatives at the Republican National Committee. The National Committeeman and National Committeewoman will take their seats directly following this year’s Republican National Convention. Both will serve a four year term at the RNC.
