Republicans ousted in Caldwell County
Incumbents John Thuss and Faye Higgins lost in Tuesday’s primary election to three newcomers who campaigned against a recent tax increase.
Clay Bollinger, Ben Griffin and Rob Bratcher ran as a group with a theme of bringing fiscal responsibility to the board.

Incumbent commissioners win primary
Dan Hunsucker and Barbara Beatty won both positions in the Catawba County Republican primary Tuesday night. They’ll face Democrat George McClellan in the November general election.

The much-awaited North Carolina primary is here. The weather in Hickory couldn’t be any better so there’s no excuse not to get out and vote today.
Election officials are reporting steady streams of voters, but no extreme lines.
