Hagan attacks Dole on drilling off N.C. coast

GREENSBORO, NC – Again choosing her millionaire friends at Big Oil and Gas companies over North Carolina families, Elizabeth Dole committed a classic flip-flop yesterday when she voiced her support for drilling off the coast of North Carolina, which would do nothing to decrease record high gas prices in the short-term, and would actually serve to increase the record profits oil companies are currently realizing. Previously voicing concern for North Carolina’s military presence off the coast, and the state’s environment and tourism industry, Dole cast those concerns aside for an election year ploy championed by George Bush and John McCain.

Poll question, uh, question

In reaction to the untimely death of Tim Russert, this week’s poll question asked who is regarded as the nation’s leading television political journalist. Many pundits considered Russert to be at the top. Responses for this question registered an unusually high number of ‘other’ votes. I actually put considerable thought into these questions and its possible answers.
So, I would welcome comments from those who chose the ‘other’ category and ask them to list who they would have picked. I intentionally left out those generally considered more entertainer/political commentator, such as Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Bill Maher, Glenn Beck and Jon Stewart. I personally see a delineation between the two groups and think it’s illogical to include them. Maybe I’m wrong.
Anyway, I view any question with more than a third of the respondents answering ‘other’ as deficient. So, what were you saying people? Leave a comment. I’m curious.

Burr on Supreme Court gun ban ruling

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) released the following statement today in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on District of Columbia v. Heller:

“I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision today.  The Second Amendment right to bear arms is a fundamental right of law-abiding citizens.  The Court made the right decision today because federal, state and local governments should not be able to arbitrarily take away freedoms that are reserved for the people by our Constitution.”

McHenry on Supreme Court gun ban ruling

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Patrick McHenry responded to the ruling by the United States Supreme Court overturning the District of Columbia’s ban on gun ownership.

“The right to bear arms is a basic, fundamental right in this country.  I’m glad the Supreme Court made it clear that this right is guaranteed to every individual citizen by the Second Amendment.  Shame on the four justices who blatantly disregarded the explicit text of our great Constitution,” Congressman McHenry declared.

Congressman McHenry co-signed an amicus brief submitted to the Court by several lawmakers urging protection of the right to bear arms.

Supreme Court overturns ban on handguns

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned a ban on hand guns in Washington, D.C. today in what is being viewed as an historic decision.

This following is the Associated Press story on the subject. I’ll also post reaction from various politicians.

High court affirms gun rights in historic decision

WASHINGTON (AP)—Silent on central questions of gun control for two centuries, the Supreme Court found its voice Thursday in a decision affirming the right to have guns for self-defense in the home and addressing a constitutional riddle almost as old as the republic over what it means to say the people may keep and bear arms.

This is an email from Senate candidate Kathy Hagan this week disputing the claim of opponent and incumbent Elizabeth Dole.

WHAT ELIZABETH DOLE SAID:
