Hagan: Dole “Late to the Game”
Democrat Kay Hagan attacks Republican opponent Elizabeth Dole’s illegal immigration stance in this news release from Thursday.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six years after assuming a new position in her career in Washington, Elizabeth Dole has enabled the Bush Administration to neglect securing our borders. Since 2000, 5 million people have crossed our border illegally, nothing has been done to crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers, and the economy is in crisis.

Andrew—
Right now you have a unique opportunity to go head-to-head with George W. Bush.
This week, John McCain and George Bush gathered behind closed doors, away from the cameras, to raise money for McCain’s campaign.

Commentary: By Focusing on Twin Cities, GOP Risks Losing Sight of South
Media General Washington Bureau Chief Marsha Mercer addresses the Republican presidential strategy in this column from last week.
By Marsha Mercer
WASHINGTON - Nothing says capital-D Democrat like the lions of the left from Minnesota—Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy and Walter Mondale.
With such cozy ties, you’d think Democrats would be flocking to the Twin Cities this summer for their presidential nominating convention. And well might they be, had the Republicans not jumped in first to claim the Twin Cities. The Democrats will meet in Denver Aug. 25.

N.C. GOP: Hagan wrong on immigration
The North Carolina Republican Party issued the following response to U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan’s roundtable discussion with sheriffs across the state earlier this week.
KAY HAGAN WRONG ON IMMIGRATION
RALEIGH—Today, Kay Hagan will host a roundtable discussion with a handful of North Carolina Sheriffs to discuss the 287g program. Hagan has criticized, outright opposed, and even called for the 287g program’s “replacement.”
Through Senator Dole’s leadership and the steadfast cooperation between the North Carolina Sheriffs Association and Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), North Carolina is leading the nation in immigration enforcement with a plan to identify, apprehend, and deport illegal aliens who have committed crimes in this country. It’s the first and only plan of its kind in the country.
Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party, made the following statement:
