McHenry: Surge is working

Congressman impressed with progress during trip to Iraq

BY JENNIFER MENSTER

Monday, March 24, 2008

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Congressman Patrick McHenry ate lunch with North Carolina soldiers stationed in Iraq on Saturday. McHenry was one of four members of Congress who went to Iraq over Easter weekend.

The lunch conversation was as light as hopes that Carolina (Tar Heels) wins the NCAA basketball tournament to how surprisingly good the food is. McHenry also talked to the soldiers about the morale in Iraq and their opinions on how the war is going.

“I came here with a deep understanding of the sacrifices troops are making, that Americans are making,” said McHenry (R-N.C.). “The men and women serving the country show a deep commitment and are working hard to make progress. The surge appears to be working.”

In today’s Your Voice in Politics

Taxpayers are fed up.
I read with great interest the statements on illegal immigration made by lieutenant governor, Greg Dority. It’s high time the citizens of North Carolina elected true leaders who are willing to tell the truth, grab the bull by the horns, and courageously take the necessary steps to protect North Carolinians from the enormous costs of illegal immigration on our schools and our children, hospitals, public safety, jobs and wages, and taxpayers’ pocketbooks. Click here to read this and other letters in the Your Voice in Politics forum.
